Mile #94 Benny
Ben “Benny” Austin was diagnosed with a stage 3 Wilms Tumor at age 3 and a half shortly after returning home from a regular 4th of July Fair. That day we learned that pretty much things can change in an instant. He fought his cancer and was treated at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with chemo and radiation for 9 months and also had a full kidney removal. We thought we were in the clear, but just three months off treatment Ben relapsed to his lung. He recieved a resection, much more intense chemo and full lung radiation. He was in treatment for an additional year.
Ben is now six years old and has kicked cancer twice. He is in kindergarten in Easton PA and tries every day to “take it back” as we like to say.
Recently on Ben’s CT he had a questionable artifact that we will be revisiting next month to make sure he is still
cancer free. He is in remission for about 9 months now and we hope to keep it that way. We continue to be optimistic that big changes are coming in the world of childhood cancer. We look to inspiration from folks like Tattoo Tom and other meaningful foundations.
