Well, it's THAT time again! Having had to pull out of last year’s race due to a hip injury I am back training for one LAST race! For a variety of reasons this will be my last big race! Joining me as pacers this year will be Melanie Bryant and Mike Filan.
From Melanie: "Hi! My name is Melanie. I’ve been running for 20+ years and have been dabbling in the ultra running world for the last 4 years. I’ve run countless miles, but what’s really drawn me to support this Moab 240 team is Stillbrave’s cause. I lost my little brother, Brett, to brain cancer in 2014, then my older sister, Laura, to the same brain cancer in 2018. I have spent the last 13+ years running, fundraising, and advocating for cancer research and supporting causes. I am absolutely honored to be able to donate my legs and these miles with Tom to the families and children impacted by pediatric cancer."
From Mike: "Hi! My name is Mike and 8 years ago my world came crashing down when I found out my 5 year old daughter had cancer. Looking back now I feel like we were one of the "lucky ones" being that my daughter is a two-time cancer survivor. Through the months and the years at the hospital and the clinic I got to witness firsthand a man that "showed up" and would be there for these children and their families no matter what they needed big or small. It was refreshing and inspiring to see and I'm happy to say our family got to know Tom and Stillbrave. Through the last number of years, we always try our best to support Stillbrave but I have to say that the times that I saw Tom was going to attempt to conquer one of these insane feats to raise money for the kids I kept wishing that I could be a small part of it and be there to help Tom. When Tom announced that he was going to run the Moab 240 this year and asked for help I jumped at the opportunity and am so excited to be a part of the team - run with Tom - and help support them in any way I can!""
So here we go! 240 miles through the Moab DESERT, with ridiculously hot temperatures during the day and well below freezing temps at night. We will be battling not only the desert and the miles but also a very strict cut-off time. A cut-off time with no mercy; just like childhood cancer. We will be carrying the pictures of all 240 children with us who are either fighting cancer, in remission or who have lost their battle to this vicious beast. We will stop and acknowledge every one of them as we traverse the miles.
Stillbrave has lost a great deal of fundraising revenue the past couple of years due to Covid and our inability to gather for events. Please help us get back on track with this race!
HUGE SHOUT OUT TO LOREN JEWELL WHO GAVE HER ALL IN LAST YEARS RACE IN MY ABSENSE!!
I remain sincerely,
Tattoo Tom
