Mile #130 Jack
Jack was diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma when he was 9 years old. He had a baseball sized tumor removed from his cheek. After several surgeries, he began his intensive treatment plan. It included a grueling year of weekly chemotherapy and an exhausting eight weeks of daily proton radiation. Jack beat the odds. He is a now happy and healthy teenager. We are truly grateful for everyday we have together, but we know too well that Jack's reality is not ideal. Like many childhood cancer survivors, his battle is far from over. Now at 14 years old, he faces a lifetime of chronic pain, surgery and therapy, and he is at extremely high risk of developing a secondary cancer before adulthood, as a result of his prior treatment.
Our children deserve more. We need better, newer treatments for our children, we need solutions, and we need a cure to end childhood cancer.
