Mile #34 Rachael
Tom & Loren
Rachael, my daughter, and Leukemia survivor finished her chemo treatments just over 2 years ago. She was diagnosed 7 years ago, a month after I left rehab for alcoholism.
She had just turned 5 when the doctors told me the news. I was devastated but drew strength from how Rachael seem unaffected by the diagnosis. As if she was 100% certain that she was going to make it through without a scratch(other than the scar from her port of course).
And that's exactly what she did. For 4 years she fought this battle with a smile on her face. She was never sad or overwhelmed and to put it simply, made cancer her bitch.
Tom, I'm terribly sorry to hear you lost your daughter. I can't say I know how it feels, but I can say I was confronted with the thought of the possibility of Rachael losing this battle, and that alone was terrifying.
I appreciate all you guys do for kids and their families during the most tragic times of their lives. I'd be honored to have Rachael's story added to your Bigfoot journey.
